May 3, 2003: Lecture of Gabor Balazs on the different meanings
of "your fellow" ("reacha") and the different interpretations of
"Ve-ahavta le-reacha kamocha" ("and you shall love your fellow...";
on Shabbat parashat Kedoshim). Special emphesis will be put on the ethical
issues raised by different inclusive and exclusive interpretations.
May 9, 2003: Moroccan dinner. Following our tradition of presenting
the history, the present, the culture and the gastronomy of different
Jewish communities, this month a member of our synagogue, Nachshon will
present us traditional sepharadic cuisine. During the dinner Dov Levy
will tell us more about the Jews in Morocco. Here you can find some

May 19, 2003: Lag Ba-omer party at 19.30, in the garden of the
Lauder-Yavne School. Entrance fee: 1000 HUF, that includes the price of
the food and drinks, as well as some tsdaka. Free for children.

May 27, 2003: Lecture of András Kovács at 7 p.m. at the Visegradi
street synagogue (1132 Budapest, Visegradi utca 3.), on the large scale
empirical research carried out in 1999 and 2000 on the different forms
of contemporary Jewish identities in Hungary.
András Kovács is a sociologist, teaching at the Central European University
(Nationalism studies and Jewish studies) and doing research at the
Minority Studies Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Science.
He is the author of several books and articles on the history and sociology
of Jews, especially in Hungary after the Shoah, as well as on forms of
identity and antisemitism.
The lecture is held in Hungarian.
