Kosher fish:
The following list is based on the luach of the Dutch orthodox rabbinate (NIK) for the year 5763 (2002-2003). There one can find a list in Dutch, English and French. I have tried to translate the list into Hungarian, but I have not always found an unambigous translation for the given fish species. Therefore the first list contains the names in Hungarian, English, French and Dutch for those species where no problem arised, whereas the second list contains fish species for which the Hungarian translation is not clear.

Unambigous species:

szardella (anchovy, anchois, ansjovis)

sügér (perch, perche, baars)

pisztráng (trout, truite, forel)

hering (herring, hareng, haring)

tőkehal (cod, cabillaud, kabeljauw)

ponty (carp, carpe, karper)

makréla (mackerel, maquereau, makreel)

szardínia (sardine, sardine, sardine)

sima lepényhal (plaice, carrelet / plie, schol)

csuka (pike, brochet, snoek)

fogas, süllő (pike-perche, sandre, snoekbaars)

spratt, sprotni (sprat, sprat, sprot)

tonhal, tuna (tuna, thon, tonijn)

lazac (salmon, saumon, zalm)

compó, cigányhal (tench, tanche, zeelt)

Species whose names were problematic for translating:

fehérkeszeg? (white bream, petit brčme, blei)

lepényhal vagy félszegúszó? (flounder, flet, bot)

aranyosfejű hal vagy (dévér)keszeg? (bream, breme, brasem)

vándor alóza? (shad, alose, elft)

tűhal vagy csőrös csuka vagy kajmánhal? (garfish, orphie, geep)

sima rombuszhal vagy félszegúszó? (brill, barbue, griet)

szürke tőkehal, csacsihal vagy tengeri csuka (hake, merlu, heek)

óriás laposhal? (halibut, fletan, heilbot, lat.: hipoglossus hipoglossus)

fekete tőkehal? (pollack, colin, koolvis)

gadóchal, északi menyhal? (ling, lingue, leng)

morgóhal? (gurnard, grondin, poon)

lepényhal (dab, limande, schar)

foltos tőkehal(haddock, aiglefin, schelvis)

eperlánlazac, viaszlazac? (smelt, capélan, spiering)
